McArdle: Scunthorpe need to be more ruthless when on top

Scunthorpe United captain Rory McArdle has said his side need to find their cutting edge when they find themselves on top in games.

The Iron were by far the superior side in the opening half of Saturday's 2-0 loss to Peterborough, but couldn't find a way to open the scoring, and paid the ultimate price.

Talking to Scunthorpe's official iFollow account, McArdle said: "We are all a little disappointed with the outcome.

"It was a game that we thought that we should have taken something from.

"In the first half, we played well, and I think we carried on doing so until they scored. I think when they did score, it knocked the stuffing out of us, but equally it’s something we can’t dwell on too much.

"However, when we have these sorts of games, we need to try and at least take a point from them."

The loss was a significant one, as it saw Iron boss Stuart McCall lose his first game at Glanford Park in the league, since taking over.

"It’s always disappointing to lose at home when you are playing in front of your own fans, especially when I feel like for the majority of the game, we were in control," McArdle said of the home loss.

"However, that’s just football sometimes and it shows that when you are on top, you need to try to be clinical. Equally, when you are on the back foot and go a goal down, you need to stick together and try push for the equaliser," he continued.
