Iron complete Paddy Madden swoop, with two more expected before the end of the day

This morning Scunthorpe United officially announced the signing of highly rated Championship striker Paddy Madden. He has been handed a 2 and a half year contract and will go straight into the squad for tomorrow's match in Mansfield.

Paddy Madden is the reigning League 1 golden boot holder after his 23 league goals last season fired Yeovil Town into the second tier of English football for the first time in the club's history. He reportedly had a bust up with Glovers boss Gary Johnson this season and has failed to make anything close to the impact he had last season. For me this is one of the most significant signings we have ever made, certainly in my lifetime. When I saw we were rumoured to have made a bid I kind of chuckled and thought, surely we can't attract a player who could easily walk into most, if not all, League 1 clubs. But he is here, and he is ready to help the Iron with their promotion ambitions.

Upon completion of the deal Madden had this to say:
"I have had the feeling of promotion last season with Yeovil and I am hungry for more promotion so I am excited by this new challenge."
He goes on to say "Winning titles is what I strive to do. I want to win as much silverware as I can. We are in a fantastic position at the top of the league and I want to come in here and help them win the league".
Fantastic things to hear from the new signing. He is also states that chairman Peter Swann sold the clubs ambitions to him which was also a large factor for putting pen to paper. The striker is currently 9/2 to be the first goalscorer tomorrow on his debut against Mansfield Town (Boomakers.co.uk) £50 free bet returns £275.

DAVE SYERS will also be announced as an Iron player today, on a 2 and a half year deal. Syers has been pivotal to the Iron's recent outstanding form since the departure of Brian Laws. Syers was recalled from his loan spell here a week or so ago and Chairman Peter Swann has acted quick to get our man here permanently. I believe the signing of Syers is just as important as the Madden one, and both will undoubtedly help fire the Iron closer to that all important promotion back to League 1.

There are also strong rumours that Marcus Williams will also be announced today, a week after his loan spell here. He has been a breath of fresh air whilst playing on the wing, and he was earmarked as a 'must have' signing from Iron fans when his loan spell ended. This will be Marcus' third spell with the Iron (not counting his recent loan spell).

Welcome to the new boys, and here's to our Promotion bid. UP THE IRON!!

UPDATE 10/01/2013 15:25 All three players are now signed up. Paddy and Dave on 2 and a half year contracts, Marcus on a 1 and a half year contract. UTI
