The turning point in the season?

So then tonight the Iron host Preston North end at Glanford Park. Coincidently despite the Iron being placed 22nd in the league and Preston being 9th we are on a better run of form. Preston have lost their last 2 games, reason for a bit of confidence?

Scunthorpe have taken 2 points from their last two games against opposition who are in the top half of the table and this will have given the players more than anything a bit of belief that just maybe, we can go on a good run of form and climb away from this impending doom which we currently sit in.

3 points tonight would not take us out of the relegation zone (unless we score 7 or 8) but it will edge us closer to getting out of this mess and especially because we are playing at home we NEED to take all 3 points, irrlevant of who the opposition are. Glanford Park should be our fortress yet teams come to our ground with bigger expectations than ourselves, it's an absolute disgrace!

Some massive positives to take into the match tonight are the fact that what I believe are players that can change our fortunes this season are coming back to fitness, this can only massively benefit the club.
First of all one of my favourite players Michael Collins got onto the pitch on Saturday to make his first appearance in over a year, and allbeit he was only on for a short period of time it is a massive step towards him gaining full match fitness. Michael may have had an up-and-down career whilst with Scunthorpe but he showed that he was good enough to play in the Championship with us on occassions which has led me to believe that he will be more than capable of doing a job for us at this level.

Captain Fantastic Paul Reid made his first start of the season on Saturday too against Swindon, and although you could tell by the end of the match that he was stiff and out of steam, his no noncense defending and leadership at the heart of the defence will lead to us shipping a lot less goals in my opinion. Not to mention the fact that the partnership he formed with David Mirfin last season was pivotal in keeping us up.

Christian Ribeiro is getting better every week and is forming a good understanding with Mark Duffy down that right hand side which can only benefit us going forward during a match. Tom Newey is turning into a bargain buy for what we could afford, he brings vital experience to the defence.

A loss of form has seen Josh Walker dropped to the bench and Robbie Gibbons has had a couple of starts recently, I fully expect this to continue. In my opinion Andy Barcham should start tonight, he was one of our best players last season and needs to play in consecutive games to regain confidence and form.

Without a doubt the 2 strikers that start tonight will be Leon Clarke and Karl Hawley. Both have formed a good partnership and understanding. Oh how I wish Wharton would open his wallet and provide funds to sign Leon Clarke permanently.

All in all I believe a heavy loss tonight will result in Iron Manager Alan Knill losing his job, but me personally, I am going to be very cheeky and confident and predict us gaining a heavy win and the start of an upwards push to mid-table.

Scoreline Prediction: Iron 3-1 PNE

Attendance: 2895
