Current transfer rumours 01/06/2012

As football fans in general the doom and gloom of Pre-Season and there not being any domestic football for 2 months seems to be lower than most years, this being because England start their Euro 2012 campaign in just 10 days, and as well as this team GB will be performing in the Olympic's this year in London. So whilst we have some football to look forward in the coming weeks (although it's not the Iron, we can live) what are the current transfer ins, outs and rumours circulating around Glanford Park at the moment?

Well firstly we have signed 2 players which has been finalised. The first player to join is Josh Walker from Watford, who Iron fans will know is a great signing after he impressed whilst on loan at the club in the second half of last season. We should also give a lot of credit to Josh who was due to sign in January, but due to already appearing for Watford and Stevenage that season he was unable to join permanently due to FA rules, so for him to perform as well as he did and still give Scunthorpe his word despite interest from other clubs shows what a great character he is.
The second confirmed summer signing is 20-year-old ex-Derby County Goalkeeper James Severn. James comes with England youth caps and bags of potential. He will be Super Sam Slocombe's understudy next season.

2 released Iron players have already agreed deals to join clubs ahead of their current contract expiring. Michael O'Connor has agreed terms with League 2 club Rotherham United. Although this may seem a strange move for a man who has proven he is comfortably good enough for a mid-table Championship side Rotherham are a club that in the next few years will be going places. They have a very nice new stadium to play in next season and I believe will be automatically promoted next year. Mickey O'Connor didn't live up to our expectations last season sadly but nethertheless he was a massive part of one of the most successful Scunthorpe United teams ever, so I for one wish him all the best for the future and fully expect to see him coming to Glanford Park in the 2013-2014 season in League 1 with Rotherham.
The second player to agree terms with another club is Andy Wright who will be a Morecambe player next season. Andy lost his place in the side in the first half of last season and was always going to be exiting Glanford Park at the end of the season, but we wish Andy the best of luck in his 2 year contract with the Shrimps.

There are a few names being rumoured to be in contact with the Iron and although we at Any Old Iron can't confirm that any of these rumours are true. It's always an exciting time seeing players linked with your club.

Jon Parkin: The Iron are of course still wanting to sign big JP who was on loan with us last season, although we look set to miss out on him to free spending PNE. We want you back BEASTTT!

 Freddy Eastwood:

The front man has been in Scunthorpe according to his Twitter page. On Wednesday morning he Tweeted "
It's sunny in scunny today." - Now he may have been joking around or visiting family in Scunthorpe, but it is definitely a lot more solid this rumour than most going around. Freddy was released by Coventry City at the end of last season who are suffering from financial problems. Although his time there was slightly torrid, I believe he could be a massive player for Scunny! Sign up Freddy!
