Reid fit for Saturday after all?

Reid to be fit?
In a surprising turn of developments, it was revealed that Iron defensive rock Paul Reid may be fit for Scunthorpe's vital trip to Stevenage after all.

This was despite him being forced to come off during the win against Yeovil with a broken nose and suspected broken cheekbone.

But In what is a welcome, albeit rare, piece of good news for Iron fans - defender Paul Reid's injury isn't as bad as was first feared.

Scans since the event have revealed that the prognosis for Reid is better than the Iron management team, and fans, had first feared.

There was no damage to his cheekbone - and the  procedure to have his nose reset was expected to have been a success.

They really do just snap your nose back into shape - and this occurred for the former Barnsley defender late on Saturday evening.

Providing nothing backfires from here on in - Knill said he was fully anticipating that Reid would be back training for the Iron on Thursday.

This would most likely give him sufficient time to prove his fitness for the Iron's away game against Graham Westley's Stevenage on the Saturday.

Scunthorpe will be looking to build on the Yeovil success by taking all 3 points from the Hertfordshire side at the Lamex Stadium.

In fact, Knill confessed that the specialist thought Reid would be able to have trained on Tuesday - but him & Brass (of course, 2 former centre-halves!), decided to not take the risk.

It is thus fully expected that the 29 year old former Colchester defender will be starting for the Iron this coming Saturday.

And given the Iron's woeful record with injuries recently - that's a definite positive for Scunny!

Andy Barcham will also be back from suspension for the upcoming game on October 1st, but it's not yet known whether or not the ex- Gillingham wide man will start.

The summer free transfer has of course been banned for the previous 3 matches after getting sent off against Sheff Utd.

Let's hope the Iron can use these as a boost to secure 3 more valuable points on the road this weekend.

Up the Iron!
